We used the Snappy Video Snapshot
To create the SUG '96 photos for the web site, we used the
Snappy Video Snapshot. It's very simple to use and relatively
inexpensive. You can find it at most computer stores for under $200.
For those interested, it's a simple process:
-
use any camcorder to capture the moments
-
later, attach the camcorder to the cigarette pack-sized
snappy which is plugged into the parallel port of your computer
-
load the Snappy software, which allows you to see a small window that
shows what's coming in on the video (even on a low-end pc)
-
pause the shot when you want to "snap" it
-
click on the "snap" button which will digitize the frame in a matter of
seconds
-
save the digitized photo at 75% compression (for putting on a web page)
which results in a less than 19k JPEG file. If space or transmission
speed weren't a concern,
you could create even higher-quality, higher-resolution photos.
