eXtensible Business Reporting Language -- Janus SOAP via Excel

The XBRL demo is a working application fronted by Microsoft Excel, extracting Model 204 data via Janus SOAP and using the specialized XBRL syntax of XML to produce spreadsheets. This demonstration was developed by Masao Okada from Database Communications Inc. in Japan, and presented at the 2010 Sirius User Group in St. Louis, Missouri. The following instructions will step you through the demonstration.

  1. Configuring your PC environment
    1. MS Excel 2007 or higher is required
    2. Download the XBRL macro file to a folder on your machine.
    3. Create a 'DCITMP' folder, which is used as a working area on your machine.
  2. Run the demo
    1. Start Excel and open the XBRL.XLSM file downloaded in the previous step.
    2. A security warning, "Macros have been disabled." may be displayed. If so, click the Options button, select "Enable this content", and click 'OK' to enable the macros.
    3. Press Alt+F8 key to display the Macro list, select 'Main' and click on 'Run'
    4. The XBRL Cloud Service Demonstration screen displays 7 buttons, of which 2 are linked to live data, one performs a language transation and one provides an exit:
      • Transition of Financial Data for Bank

        Select one bank from the 'Bank' listbox and click 'Extract'. This displays an Excel book file of the trandition data of the bank.

      • Comparison of Financial Data among Banks

        Select a quarter term from 'Quarter term' listbox and any banks from 'Bank' listbox and click 'Extract'. This will display an Excel book file of the comparison data among the banks.

      • Go to Japanese

        This function translates the display to the Japanese version of the XBRL Cloud Services Demonstration

      • Exit

        Exits the XBRL demonstration.
